my first post!
January 14th, 2021
on this past new years eve and new years day, I avoided doing the kind of reflecting that i usually do at the beginning of a new year. like many other people, i regarded 2020 as somewhat of a lost year. i thought it'd be kind of depressing to go through everything i had done, knowing everything i didn't or couldn't do.
but this past week, i was feeling a bit melancholy and so i decided to take inventory of everything i had done this past year. i realized that it was actually a lot better than i had thought at first glance. yeah, there were a lot of "lows", perhaps a couple of "rock bottoms", and markedly less "highs" than usual. but these circumstances created opportunities that i wouldn't have had at any other time. for example, taking korean - i would have been much less likely to do this if classes were in person, as going to the opposite side of campus every morning was a pretty big barrier to entry. quarantine has given me the time and motivation to learn how to cook, something i'll enjoy the rest of my life. i've adopted a more balanced schedule with more sleep and regular exercise.
i also started listing all the cool things i've learned and made - and it was a lot! so i started thinking, it'd be kinda cool if i just kept track of all this stuff somewhere. so at the end of the year (or i guess anytime) when i feel like i didn't do anything, i can just look back and be like, oh wait, i actually did!
hope you enjoy!
